James Black and Jane Moore Black

From the Cunningham Family files of Legacy Keepers Sandra Scott and Janis McCoy

James “Jim” Black was born August 21, 1813 in South Carolina to John C. Black and his wife Elizabeth. Jim was an extremely colorful member of our family. Jane Black, Pop’s grandmother, was Jim’s daughter by his first wife Jane Moore. According to family stories, Jane Moore hung herself in South Carolina. There was some question of foul play in the matter, some of it incriminating Jim’s second wife, Jane Dolster. Because of the scandal the whole family packed up and moved to Alabama, including Jim’s father, three brothers, one sister, and Jane Dolster whom Jim had married. Jim was married a third time to Isabella C. Miller. With his three wives Jim fathered thirteen children – eleven daughters and two sons. Jim died on September 7, 1891 in Fayette County, Alabama.
