Children of John Wesley Perkins and Clara Sanders Perkins

1) Birdie B. Perkins (b. 23 December 1913 in Fayette County, AL; d. 22 January, 2004) m. William Richard (Dick) Bomar (b. 1913 in Bell Buckle, TN; d. 1991 in Atlanta, GA). They had no children but were very involved with Birdie’s niece and nephews and their families. After Birdie graduated from Lamar County High School in Vernon, she moved to Birmingham, AL, where she became a Registered Nurse, and went on to become an air pioneer. She was the first Stewardess to serve passengers onboard a Delta aircraft. Dick was an airline pilot. They lived on Niskey Lake in southwest Atlanta for many years. After Dick’s death, Birdie was active in the real estate business for several years. They are buried in the Sanders Cemetery near Vernon, AL.

(2) Elvin Gladstone “Hot” Perkins (b. 20 September 1918 in Carbon Hill, AL; d. 20 April 1968 in Port Huron, MI) m. Norma Turner in 1946 (div.)/ m. Dorothy “Dot” Yielding (b. 1 December 1923 in Dawson Springs, KY). Elvin served in the Army during WWII. He worked as a carpenter, painter, contractor and car salesman. Dorothy worked as a bookkeeper until retirement. She now lives in Vernon, AL. Elvin and Dot had three boys: John Wesley, Steven Robert, and James Richard.

(3) Lema D. Perkins (b. 1 January 1922 in Vernon, AL; d. 8 March 1983 in Atlanta, GA) m. Edward Clark Jones (b. 26 January 1923 in Troy, AL; d. 18 July 1999). (Edward C. Jones was born Hermann Edward Mall, later adopted and name changed.) Lema worked for Delta Airlines from 1944 to 1951 before she retired from public work to become a full-time homemaker and, later, mother. She died from complications of diabetes. Ed attended Georgia Tech University. He worked for Delta Airlines from 1946 to 1951, served in the U.S. Air Force, and then worked for the State of Georgia as Industrial Development Specialist until retirement on 1 October 1985. Lema and Ed lived near Marietta, GA, and are both buried in the Sanders Cemetery near Vernon, AL. They had two children, Edward Scott and Elizabeth “Beth” Claire.
